Let Me In (part 1 of 8)

A month ago, I was at my friend’s birthday party.

Things were going pretty boring. Then all of a sudden, Teenage Dream starts playing on stereo.

I’m single so I block the other 50 people in the room, and start dancing on my own and belting out the lyrics to my jam, while everyone else is just standing there looking at me funny.

As I’m dancing, I see this guy at the corner of my eye.

He has his hands in his front pockets and he’s standing alone.

Oh wait, he’s staring at me!

I look away and keep dancing.

“Is he gay? Is he straight? Why is he staring at me?”, I think to myself.

I look at him again.

Oh, he’s actually smiling at me! He’s cute with boy next door looks. Curly brown hair. Jeans and a white t-shirt. Black shirt on top. Very sk8er boy.

I smile back at him and sing along with Katy: “be your teenage dream tonight”. He gets it. He gets that I’m flirting. His smile turns into a small giggle.

Man, I thought these things only happened in movies.

The song is gonna end in seconds so I look at him one last time and smile. I stop dancing and go back to my group of friends.

The birthday girl was also there. She drags me aside and jokingly said: “Okay Miss. Perry, what was that all about?”.

“What? I just love that song. I had to dance, even if by myself!”, I said.

“No, not that”, she said. “What was going on between you and Ahmad?”.

“Ahhh. So his name’s Ahmad. Nothing. I donno the guy. We were just smiling at each other”.

Then I turn around to look if he was still there. He wasn’t.

It seemed like the birthday girl, Maya, had a concerned look on her face. “Listen habibe… about Ahmad… just don’t get any ideas”.

“What ideas? He’s just cute. But why are you saying that? Does he have a boyfriend or something?”, I asked.

She was about to say something until we got interrupted by her girlfriend who kissed her on the neck and said: “Time to cut the cake, Maya!”.

Then as she’s getting dragged away to cut the cake, she says: “Trust me. Just don’t”.
